Empty/Full utilises the everyday item of the drink coaster found in pubs, clubs, and bars where many have humbly doodled, to explore it as a formal drawing surface. I have been collecting and drawing on coasters since I was a young girl and this work brings together over 80 coasters from my collection. Each coaster depicts everyday moments, portraiture and the abstract to examine the role alcohol has played in my family, upbringing and into my adult life. My original drawings of people in RSLs and bowling clubs are included alongside repeated drawings of hands empty and full, symbols representing darkness and light.
